St. George's Biomedical Imaging Group

by admin last modified 2008-10-01 12:07

The Biomedical Imaging Group is aligned with the Centre for Clinical Neuroscience in the Division of Cardiac and Vascular Sciences at St George’s, University of London.

The Group comprises scientists and clinicians with a broad spectrum of expertise and the common interest of research using in vivo biomedical imaging.

We combine basic science and clinical research with a focus on the translation of our methodology into actual clinical use. The primary aim is the development of imaging techniques and analytical tools that provide biomarkers of disease severity, progression and treatment response.

The Group has an established international reputation in the use of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy (MRS) in biomedical research. Hence a primary interest is in the use and development of MRI and MRS methods to investigate a wide variety of human diseases, with a focus on brain and vasculature. Major research projects have led to the development of MRI disease markers for cerebral small vessel disease and MRS pattern recognition methods for classifying brain tumours. The group also has expertise in other brain imaging techniques, and in particular with transcranial Doppler ultrasound for emboli detection.
